Our take

Finding the concealed entrance on The Empire's 55th floor is the cover charge: beyond it waits a burgundy, candlelit room playing '80s and '90s hits to a crowd that came for the cocktails and the Mahanakhon view. Drinks are the strength — the mango sticky rice cocktail is a work of art — while food plays a minor role. Loud, red, and great fun.

Insider tip

Persist through the elevator confusion — getting slightly lost is part of the design. Come for drinks rather than dinner, and claim a window seat before sunset.
